I understand now what audience liked about Lootera: Vikramaditya Motwane on watching Lootera during re-release
Lootera re-released recently
Recently, director Vikramaditya Motwane watched his 2013 film Lootera, starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha, with an audience during its re-release. He says it was quite a moment, as with some distance, he can now view the film more objectively.
"I went to see the film when we re-released it. I had not seen it since its release. I quite enjoyed it," he admits. "When one is making a film, you're normally so tense about everything that you don't get to see the film that what's right and what's wrong."

Over the years, Lootera has found a dedicated following and with its availability on OTT and its theatrical re-release, a new generation of viewers has rediscovered the film.
"A new audience has now seen the film. I see what they were saying. I get it now. I understand what they liked about the film," he says.

Motwane feels that for a filmmaker, time can offer a fresh perspective and a chance to understand the film's original intent.
"With distance, I now understand the intention I had at the very beginning when I was writing it. Sometimes you can't get that right away - it's so subjective," he explains. "So, it was lovely for me to be objective and look at the film and say - oh, this is lovely, the actors work, the story works, the music works, the setting is so interesting."
The journey of Lootera was quite long. Motwane first wrote the screenplay in 2004 but didn’t begin shooting until 2011.
