Kunal Kemmu recalls traumatised memory of being thrown off during bomb blast in Srinagar when he was 6: 'I just remember seeing smoke and glass shatter'

Kunal Kemmu reflected on his childhood in Kashmir, where he lived until the age of six before relocating to Mumbai. He recalled the tense atmosphere and uncertainty of that period, mentioning how he witnessed events he couldn’t fully comprehend at the time.
In an interview with ANI, Golmaal 3 actor Kunal shared memories of his childhood in Srinagar, where fear was a constant presence. He recalled how sudden explosions and stone-pelting were common, and loud noises often caused confusion about whether they were accidents or something more dangerous.
The actor reflected on his childhood memories of Srinagar from the perspective of a six-year-old. He fondly remembered his school, family outings to Dal Lake and Pahalgam, but also sensed the stress around him. Despite his family’s efforts to shield him, he still became aware of the tense environment.

Kemmu also recalled how loud sounds often led to confusion about whether it was a cylinder blast or a bomb. He also remembered times when lights were kept off at night to avoid stones being thrown into homes, as it was advised not to keep them on in the evening.
Kunal also remembered a frightening experience when a bomb blast occurred right beneath his house. He recalled playing when the sudden explosion threw him off balance, leaving everything around him covered in darkness and smoke.
He further recalled a terrifying moment when a bomb blast happened right below his house while he was playing cards with his cousin. The sudden explosion threw him off, shattering glass and filling the room with smoke. He described it as a scene from a film, followed by complete darkness.

Kunal recalled the chaotic aftermath of the blast, with people running and a house where the floor had caved in due to the explosion. He remembered the street being crowded, but as a child, he found it surreal to see their neighborhood on television, making him feel unexpectedly important.
Kunal also recalled times when sudden unrest would break out, with incidents of stone pelting prompting the army to step in.
Kunal reflected on how, as a child, he found it difficult to grasp the situation. He recalled moments in Nawakadal when sudden stone pelting would occur, followed by the army’s arrival. He and his cousin would watch through the windows, unable to fully understand what was happening.

"So for me, what happened is after that, and after we left and came to Mumbai, not knowing that we wouldn't be going back, we were still trying to figure it out. I think our parents kind of did an amazing job of sheltering us from it. But at six and seven, you always heard people talk about it," he added.
Kunal mentioned that, as a child, he found the situation unsettling. Because of this, he never actively tried to understand what was happening in the valley.
Kunal shared that he sensed the stress and emotions of people around him and understood that something was wrong. As a child, he chose to block it out and never actively tried to understand the situation. He felt it wasn’t his place to ask questions, especially when discussions seemed unsettling.
