Now that her kids are grown up and her husband firmly based in Africa, Mira Nair wants to set up home in India, again
Mira Nair will now make movies from India.
Yes, she’s moving back to India from New York and is currently looking for property in and around Mumbai. Says Mira, “I want a peaceful spot to set up my home. I’ll also be bringing my filmmaking school Maisha into India.

It’s so nice to be back in my own mahaul. Moving back home is such a joy.”
Mira has finally got herself a permanent Indian cell number. “At least I’ve got my identity in place with my phone,” she jokes.
Says Mira, “My son is now in University. My husband is an intellectual based in Africa. We’ve a home in Kampala since he’s working in the university there. Delhi is my home. But I’ll be working from Mumbai.
Aana-jaana is fine. But I need to settle down in India again.
The kids are raised. I can now get back to the streets, in a manner of speaking.”
After Namesake in 2006, which won critical acclaim, Nair made Amelia, which bombed. We even reported recently that Shantaram has been shelved because Johnny Depp has moved on to other projects. Setting up shop back home might not be such a bad idea, after all.
