Pahlaj Nihalani revealed that Mahesh had requested him to be a part of his film 'Rangeela Raja' which starred
Govinda in lead.
Talking about Mahesh, Nihalani said that it was he who had called me to be a part of 'Rangeela Raja' but by then we had almost completed the shoot of the film and sensing his need to work I drafted a role for him in the climax, which was the only part of the film which wasn't shot.
Furthermore, the filmmaker revealed that Mahesh was very straightforward and courageous in his dealings but he wasn't aware of his financial condition. In spite of having a son and wife, Mahesh would always live alone and was always accompanied by his dog. And his physique was the envy of many heroes back in time when hitting the gym wasn't even a trend.Nihalani was even quoted as saying that he wasn't aware of Mahesh's drinking habits.
