Actress Pallavi Sharda, who was last seen in 'Begum Jaan', has now been roped in to play a princess in filmmaker Gurinder Chadha's period drama, 'Beecham House', which is set in Delhi during the late 1700s. Talking about her character’s prominence in the show, she tells us, “I play Chandrika, who is bold, proud and clings viscerally to her roots. She is close to John Beecham (played by Tom Bateman), but no one in the house understands why.

She is like a gallant and warrior-like, Indian woman who is prepared to fight for what she believes in. I didn’t have to think twice when I got the offer to play Chandrika.”
Pallavi admits that the historical significance of the series was a major factor for her to say ‘yes’ to the project. She explains, “This story gives a humane perspective to a very volatile time in Indian history. For me, it is also a step closer to understanding India. It is a history, which I have inherited from my parents and glimpsed at through my readings and learnings. But re-enacting it on screen has given me deeper understanding and love for the resilience of our nation.”
Talking about her experience of working with Gurinder, Pallavi shares, “It has been an absolute joy to work with her. She has inspired me since I first watched 'Bhaji On The Beach' as a young girl. She has pioneered the representation of South Asian identity in mainstream cinema around the world and since I hail from the same diaspora, her work greatly impacted me, too.”
