Parineeti Chopra faces backlash for calling construction work ‘Embarrassing’

Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra has landed in controversy over her recent remark about construction work, which many netizens have deemed insensitive.
During an interview with Mashable Middle East host Rannvijay Singha, the 'hamkila' actress was asked about her experience with part-time jobs while studying abroad.
Rannvijay, who has previously worked as a construction worker in New York, shared his experience and asked Parineeti if she had done similar jobs. In response, Parineeti remarked, "Oh fab...mine is not so embarrassing," prompting Rannvijay to clarify, "Well, mine isn’t embarrassing either." Though both actors laughed off the moment, social media users were quick to criticize Parineeti for seemingly looking down on blue-collar jobs.
The clip soon went viral, with many netizens calling her out for being "elitist" and "tone-deaf" towards the dignity of labor. Social media users pointed out that construction work is a respectable profession, and Parineeti’s comment appeared to belittle those who work hard in such fields.
Following the remark, many users on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram slammed the actress. “Calling construction work ‘embarrassing’ while sitting on a couch built by construction workers? Irony at its peak,” wrote one user. Another user commented, “Pari is a past tale and she's just going on and beyond to be relevant. But in reality she's biting the bullet. I just feel blah for her lol” Another comment read, “I don’t know who told her that construction is an embrassing job. If anything, it’s one of the most accessible jobs amongst Indian Immigrants (especially Punjabi’s) within the West.”
In the same interview, Parineeti later revealed that she worked at two places in the UK during her student years. She said, “I worked at Manchester United at Old Trafford. I also worked at Primark in a departmental store. Sometimes, I even skipped college because I had to earn money.” However, her previous remark overshadowed these revelations, as many found her words dismissive of hard labor.
On the professional front, Parineeti Chopra was last seen in Imtiaz Ali’s Chamkila alongside Diljit Dosanjh.
