Bollywood is bursting with songs that have ‘retro’ written all over them
It’s been a while that Ranbir Kapoor wooed the female audience with the song Bachna Ae Haseeno. The track that was originally sung by Kishore Kumar, was later remixed and sung by his son Sumit Kumar. And looks like filmmakers now are trying to cash in on the trend. Almost every big film that’s releasing, is seeing at least one remixed retro song from the good old days.
1x1 polls
Some have worked, some haven’t but that’s not stopping them from tracking down hit numbers of the 70s and 80s!
Laila main laila — When Yaana Gupta shakes that patli kamar to Laila Main Laila, you’re bound to sit up and take notice. In Chalo Dilli, Yaana, just like Zeenat Aman in the original, shakes her booty for a roomfull of men. And just like in the original, men are cheering just as much! Looks like this Laila, too, is a hit!
Dum maaro dum — We don’t know about the others but Panchamda must have cringed in his grave after hearing the lyrics of the revised version of the popular Dum Maaro Dum. Deepika Padukone may look like a million bucks in the song but the audience still gave their thumbs up to Zeenie baby!
Pyar do pyar lo — The film Thank You sank without a trace and with it, the remixed version of Pyar do pyar lo, too went unnoticed. Not that it could have beaten the original anyway.
Monica oh my darling/ Duniya Mein — No-one can beat Helen when it comes to dancing but we must give full marks to Guahar Khan for at least trying to come close to her. The well-shot song managed to do justice to the yesteryear classic.
Apni toh jaise taise — Another song that managed to stay on top of the music charts for long and was quite a hit in the dancing hubs of the city as well. The super-hot combo of Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal and Riteish Deshmukh with Mika lending his earthy vocals was a sure-shot hit!
