Seema Kapoor reveals Annu Kapoor wanted to drag Om Puri to court after he denied fathering her child post-affair with Nandita: 'He was furious'

Seema Kapoor's brief marriage to Om Puri in 1991 crumbled after just eight months due to his affair with Nandita. Discovering the infidelity while pregnant, Seema left, prompting her brothers, including Annu Kapoor, to consider legal action. Despite Om Puri's shocking allegations of adultery, Seema refused to file a domestic violence case, opting for a mutual divorce and alimony.

Seema Kapoor, sister of veteran actor Annu Kapoor, was briefly married to actor Om Puri. They had known each other for over 10 years before getting married in 1991. However, the marriage lasted only 8 months. At that time, Seema was three months pregnant, and Om Puri wanted a divorce as he was in a relationship with Nandita, whom he later married.
Trouble in Paradise: Discovery of Affair
The trouble between Seema Kapoor and Om Puri began just months after their wedding, when Seema discovered his affair with Nandita. Their constant fights led Seema, who was three months pregnant, to leave the marriage hoping Om would realise his mistake—but he didn’t. Her brothers, Annu and Ranjit Kapoor, were very angry and even considered taking Om Puri to the Supreme Court to seek justice for Seema.
Annu Kapoor’s Anger and Legal Action Plans
In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Seema shared that she had hoped leaving Om Puri would make him realise her value. She went to her brother, believing he might miss her. But things didn’t turn out that way. She simply told Annu Kapoor, “Please don’t ask me anything, just book my ticket to Jhalawar.?br/>
A few days later, Seema’s train tickets were booked, and she went to stay with her mother. As things didn’t improve, her family wanted to take strong action against Om Puri. Seema shared that her brother wanted to take Om to the Supreme Court, another was ready to sell his property, and her sister-in-law even considered selling her jewellery to gather money for the legal fight.
Om Puri's Shocking Allegations
She added that just two months after she went to Jhalwar, Om Puri sent a legal petition accusing her of adultery and denying that he was the father of her unborn child. Seema said she was heartbroken and shocked, as she never expected such harsh accusations from him, especially since he was never the kind of man to speak badly about women.

Refusing to File Domestic Violence Case
After Om Puri’s serious accusations, Annu Kapoor and his friends were furious and encouraged Seema to file a domestic violence case against him. However, Seema refused, saying it wouldn’t be right since Om had never physically harmed her. She told her mother she didn’t want a big fight, still hoping things might improve. But when that didn’t happen, she chose peace over conflict. Seema eventually agreed to a mutual divorce and accepted a one-time alimony of Rs 6 lakh. She said, “With a fight, we can win property, not people."
Om Puri’s affair with Nandita had begun shortly after his marriage to Seema, but she had no idea at the time. Things took a strange turn when the couple once met American actor-dancer Patrick Swayze. He complimented Seema, and Om Puri reacted very suspiciously, which left her confused and concerned.

Om Puri’s Affair with Nandita and Suspicious Behavior
Seema recalled, "Patrick Swayze once told Om, 'Your wife’s face matches that of little Buddha.' By this time, Om had already started his affair with Nandita. As soon as he heard Patrick compliment me, he quickly responded, 'She is a tyrant.' I had no idea about their affair at the time, so I kept wondering why he reacted that way."
After divorcing Seema in 1991, Om Puri married author-journalist Nandita in 1993, and the couple had a son. However, they too divorced in 2013.
