Mahesh Bhatt is working on adapting his film Arth into a play, to be staged later this year in Delhi and Mumbai. “I’ve had this in mind for a long time. The film is about gender equality in a tone and tenor that is identifiable, without being preachy and profound. It is a theme that has endured for 30 years because this independence has remained a constant aspiration for Asian women.
I thought it is high time that I brought it in a different medium to the generation now. I have asked actor Imran Zahid to give body and shape to it. Of course, since the copyright will be an issue, the songs will be new and the situations different,” Bhatt said.
Imran added, “I’ll be playing the role that
Kulbhushan Kharbanda played in the film. The rest of the cast will be new faces.”
