Dallas Jenkins, creator of the popular series The Chosen, recently shared insights into his latest project, which explores the Last Supper. With a focus on intimacy and emotion, Jenkins brings a fresh perspective to this pivotal moment in Jesus' life. In a candid conversation, he discusses his approach to scripting and directing this iconic event, as well as his appreciation for Hindi cinema and potential future collaborations.
What inspired him to tackle this iconic event? Jenkins shares, "The Last Supper is one of the most impactful moments in history because Jesus delivers so much truth and power in his final day before he goes to the cross. What I also love about it for our show is that it's so intimate and personal, which is what our show is about. So I wanted to really explore not only Jesus' famous words from this moment, but how the apostles would react and how this would affect their relationships with Jesus and with each other. We're reminding people that The Last Supper isn't just a painting."
As for the script, Jenkins believes viewers will see emotions in a way that hasn't been explored before. The pain and sadness Jesus experiences will be palpable, particularly in the exchange between Jesus and Judas, which he describes as "so painful." The Chosen has been released in theatres across India.
Beyond his work on The Chosen, Jenkins has also developed an appreciation for Hindi cinema. "I've seen a few Hindi films, yes, and I love how bold they are. The colors are stunning, and I love the confidence of the filmmakers with the music and dancing. Hindi cinema seems to have such joy and passion," he notes.
While Jenkins hasn't worked with actors from the Hindi film industry directly, he has expressed interest in collaborating with them in the future. "I love working with Paras Patel, who plays Matthew for me, although he's not from the Hindi film industry. I would love to work with some Hindi actors if it's possible, I've admired Aamir Khan as a performer for sure," he adds.
