When Rekha said Vinod Mehra kissed her on her birthday, thus confirming relationship with him, here's why their relationship didn't last

Rekha was rumoured to be in a relationship with her 'Ghar' co-star Vinod Mehra. According to Rekha’s biography, The Untold Story, written by Yasser Usman, the actress had met Vinod Mehra after her alleged breakup with Jeetendra. Reports suggested that Rekha was married to Vinod Mehra but somehow, the actor's mother never liked her. While in an interview with Simi Garewal, she had refuted rumours of secret marriage with Vinod, the actress had once admitted to their relationship.
She had once candidly said in an interview with Star And Style, "Vinod kissed me on my birthday but in the morning and in the privacy of my bedroom." According to reports in those times, Rekha had kept a nickname for him which was 'Vin Vin' and the rumoured couple was spotted going for long drives and having dinner at Taj hotel.
Rekha's comment faced criticism from some very conservative fans and the media but the actress has always been pretty bold and honest in her confessions.
Vinod and Rekha's relationship didn't last as reportedly, Mehra's mother did not approve of Rekha. She had said in an interview, "To her (Vinod's mother) I am not just an actress, but I am a badnaam actress with a rotten past and a reputation for being a sex-maniac. For Vinod's sake, she tolerated me in the beginning. Now she won't tolerate me at all."
In this interview, Simi had said, "You were in married in 1973 with Vinod Mehra," to which Rekha responded, "Excuse me?" She further added, "Like I was married to Faruq Abdullah, you mean? No, anybody can say anything. Are you asking me?…But I don’t want to (answer), it is not important, Vinod Mehra was always a well-wisher, he was always very very close to me.”
