It's been ten years to Dil Chahta Hai, ten years since the music of the film became a rage. But music composers Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa reveal that even though the music of the film was such a hit, they didn't get work for another seven to eight months after that.
"Mainstream directors didn't know if we could handle a mainstream film, so there was apprehension on their part." Explains Loy, "DCH was a different kind of a film and the film industry at that time, was trying to deal with the change." Of course, when the work did start coming in, it poured! "Lot of people came to us with similar scripts," says Loy, adding that in rewind mode, they do think about how big the music of DCH had become.

"But at that time, when you're creating music, you do it with no baggage. You're just given this clean sheet of paper and asked to paint. You have some ideas and you're very cool about wanting to try out new things," he says.
