As his movie, ‘Margamkali’ has hit the screens today, director Sreejith Vijayan seems excited and a little anxious at the same time. “For a director, the second directorial is very crucial,” says 'Margamkali' director Sreejith Vijayan sharing his concern in a candid chat with ETimes. Like many other fields of profession, showbiz is also a bit superstitious in some ways.
Even if you prove in your first directorial, some might consider as beginners luck, but they would definitely track your second. Also, if you fail in first, it’s no crime, because lack of experience can’t be treated as an offense. Sreejith’s debut directorial venture, ‘Kuttanadan Marpappa’ was released last year starring
Kunchacko Boban. With no star cast, Sreejith Vijayan’s next, ‘Margamkali’ has hit the theatres today.
Touted to be a colourful, family entertainer, the movie is all about romance and is said in the perspective of the character, that
Namitha Pramod essays clarifies Sreejith. “She plays the central character in the movie and hence all other characters including the Bibin George’s character hold equal relevance in the movie,” director Sreejith Vijayan elaborates.
Even though the movie has its main narrative plotted in the the romance of Bibin’s and Namitha’s character, the film all together says the love stories of people from different generation and age groups. “Instead of focusing on two characters or a particular issue, the movie has a variety of topics and characters to discuss. The movie also has a parallel plot that says the beautiful love story of the characters helmed by actors Siddique and
Shanthi Krishna,” adds Sreejith revealing his fondness towards movies of the 90s, which never focused on a specific character or particular storyline.
Speaking about the presence of three heroines,
Namitha Pramod, Gouri Kishan (of 96 fame), and Soumya Menon in the movie, Sreejith said, “Gouri Kishan handles an important role in the movie. Rather than more screen space, Gouri Kishan's character is discussed throughout the film.” The movie also has actors Baiju Santhosh, Hareesh Kanaran and
Dharmajan Bolgatty essaying some pivotal roles.
The director also confesses that the movie is a bit experimental and music director Gopi Sundar had a lot of space to experiment with. “As the movie also comes under the genre of comedy, finding the perfect partition between love and comedy was a bit difficult, and Gopi chettan(Gopi Sundar) managed to reproduce it with perfection,” Sreejith exclaimed.
Sreejith Vijayan has also associated with his first cinematographer, Aravind Krishna for the movie. Sasankan Mayyanad has penned the story and screenplay for which Bibin George is crafting the dialogues.
As the movie 'Margamkali' has hit the screens today, director Sreejith Vijayan has higher hopes for his second directorial and also hints us about a surprise the movie has to offer!
