It was in 1914 that Charlie Chaplin entered the scene with his signature moustache and derby hat. And now, after 100 years, when the whole world is celebrating the centenary of the master comedian’s iconic character in the movie Little Tramp, Mollywood director R Sarath is also paying homage to the actor. His upcoming movie,
Buddhan Chirikunnu, is based on Charlie Chaplin.
Scripted by the director himself, it will have
Indrans in the lead role.
“The movie revolves around Indraguptan, a comedy actor and an ardent fan of Charlie Chaplin. Though he is a busy actor, his greatest desire is to portray Chaplin characters on screen.
Indraguptan is so fascinated by Chaplin that at one point he even starts thinking like him. The plight and dilemma of the character form the rest of the plot,” says Sarath.
However, like the director’s previous attempts,
Buddhan Chirrikunnu also handles a serious theme, but layered with situational comedy. Praveena plays the role of Indraguptan’s wife in the movie. The other cast on board include Nedumudi Venu, Jagadeesh and Nandu.
