Mohanlal and
Prithviraj Sukumaran’s highly anticipated action thriller ‘L2: Empuraan’ is making waves even before its release. The film, set to hit theaters on March 27, has already created history by reportedly securing a massive Rs 30 crore deal for its overseas distribution rights, surpassing
Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘King of Kotha’, which stood at Rs 14.8 crore.
According to Malayalam movie tracker Mohammed Ihsan, ‘Empuraan’ has now entered the top tier of South Indian overseas rights deals, standing alongside big-budget films like Pushpa 2 (Rs 140 Cr), Kalki (Rs 100 Cr), and Leo (Rs 60 Cr).
Looking at these collection figures and the hype, ‘L2: Empuraan’ has indeed become the most anticipated film of Mohanlal after ‘Odiyan’ and ‘Kunjali Marakkar, ’ while both the films didn’t manage to impress the audiences, resulting in it’s underperformance at the box office.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal recently introduced a new distributor for the film, confirming the association with Gokulam Movies. Taking to Instagram, he wrote,
"Team #L2E #Empuraan is delighted to announce our association with the trail-blazing market leaders Gokulam Movies to bring this magnum opus to the screens. A special thanks to Shri. Gokulam Gopalan for showing immense faith and confidence in our team and the film we have created. 27th of March 2025, EMPURAAN, the Lucifer franchise’s 2nd instalment, hits theatres worldwide! Stay tuned for further details!"
The team also addressed rumors of a delay by releasing a striking new poster that quoted The Usual Suspects: “The greatest trick the DEVIL ever pulled... was convincing the world he doesn’t exist!” This was seen as an indirect response to speculation about a postponed release.
With excitement building and record-breaking figures rolling in, Empuraan is shaping up to be one of the biggest pan-Indian releases of 2025, hitting screens in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada.
