When the striking poster of the Joju George-Sheelu Abraham starrer, titled Star, was released recently, it had one big surprise.
Prithviraj’s name too featured in the acting credits of director Domin D’silva’s psychological mystery.
Confirming that the actor is appearing in an important extended cameo, Star’s debut writer Suvin Somasekharan said, “Prithviraj plays Dr Derrick who tries to unearth the mystery in the story.
As the title suggests, the thriller is related to a star - the Beetlejuice in the Orion constellation. The film could be interpreted as a ‘spoof’ on earlier thrillers.” The story also incorporates Indian myths, and looks at how myths and beliefs affect people’s lives.
Of course, this is not Prithviraj's first supernatural-psychological thriller. He has earlier played the lead in horror thriller Ezra, directed by Jay K, and Jenuse Mohamed's supernatural thriller Nine. There was also Koode, which also dealt with an after-death subject, in an emotional manner.
The shoot of Star is complete and the film is currently in post-production. Suvin says that the film, which has ‘burst of myths’ as its slogan, should be ready for release by end-January. The film also has Gayathri Ashok of Ladoo fame in an important role.
Tharun Bhaskaran is the DoP. Music is by M Jayachandran and Ranjin Raj to Harinarayanan’s lyrics.
Though Domin had announced last year that he would be working on Maatti, starring Biju Menon, which was also written by him, that seems to be on hold. The writer-director’s Paipin Chuvattile Pranayam had been critically appreciated.
