Actress Meghana Raj’s renditions for the Kannada film Bahuparaak and Malayalam flick 100 Degree Celsius were proof enough of her passion for singing. She will now enthrall her fans with yet another song, this time for TV host-turned-Kannada actor Akul Balaji’s film Devarawne Bidu Guru. The song titled Modala Pulakavo will also have stars Puneet Rajkumar, Upendra, Sudeep and Prem singing along with the Memories actress.
While it’s not the actress’ first time as a playback singer, it still gave her jitters while recording. She says, “I was nervous when I stood before the mike as the song had to be rendered in a husky tone. It was a tad difficult because I had to match the feel of the scenes on-screen. I found it challenging at first, nevertheless it felt amazing once I finished recording.”
Quiz her if she’s more comfortable singing than acting, and Meghana says, “Though I am primarily into acting, I really like singing. I am genuinely interested in it and it is not mere business for me. A singer has to make sure to put across the song in a subtle yet powerful way.” She reveals that she imbibed the love for music from her dad. “My father being a theatre person, used to compose music for his plays. He noticed me singing one of his compositions at a young age and he was amazed. From then on, he taught me the little things that he knew about music.”
On a music director she yearns to work with, the actress says, “It would be a dream come true if I could sing for AR Rahman. He is very unconventional. Every song by him is a musical journey as you do not know where you start and where it takes you eventually.” Meghana will next be seen in a Malayalam film Hallelujah opposite actor Narain.
