Unni Mukundan is basking in the success of his latest film, 'Marco', directed by
Haneef Adeni. Released in December last year, the film has earned widespread appreciation from audiences across the country. However, it has also sparked discussions among film enthusiasts regarding its intense portrayal of violence.
Widely regarded as one of the most violent Indian films ever made, 'Marco' has been at the centre of debates about its depiction of brutality. Unni Mukundan has now addressed the criticism in an interview with Galatta Plus. “Marco doesn’t even show ten per cent of the violence present in our society,” he stated.

The 'Mikhael' actor further shared that violence has always been a fundamental part of human history. He added that humans have attained peace through wars. “Above all, survival is our ultimate goal. I’m not saying it is an excuse to show violence on screen, but the fact remains that violence exists in our society.”
'Marco' revolves around the titular gangster, who sets out on a path of vengeance after his stepbrother’s murder. The film, deeply rooted in the Kochi underworld, blends action with family drama to drive its narrative. The movie received an 'A' certificate from the CBFC and drew comparisons with other intense films like 'Animal' by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and 'Kill' by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat.
Marco also stars Siddique, Jagadish, Abhimanyu Shammi Thilakan, Yukti Thareja, and Sreejith Ravi in pivotal roles. This marks the fourth venture of director Haneef Adeni and his second collaboration with Unni Mukundan after Mikhael. Music director
Ravi Basrur, known for KGF, has composed the music for the film.
On the work front, Unni Mukundan is preparing for his upcoming project, 'Get-Set Baby' by Vinay Govind, which will hit theatres on February 21. The movie also features Nikhila Vimal, Chemban Vinod Jose, Shyam Mohan, and Johny Antony in key roles.
