CV Kumar explains why he named his next film as 'Gangs of Madras'
Producer-turned-director CV Kumar has pinned high hopes on his next, Gangs of Madras. Starring Sai Priyanka Ruth, Ashok, Velu Prabhakaran, Aadukalam Naren, Daniel Balaji and Bagavathi Perumal in crucial roles, the film deals about the rampant cocaine business in the city.
According to Kumar, the movie has portrayal of things pertaining to narcotics trade in a realistic manner.

Hari and Shyamalangan have composed music for the project which has cinematography by Karthi K Thillai and action choreography by Hari Dinesh.
When asked why the film has been named “Gangs of Madras” and not “Gangs of Chennai”, he said, “Though the name of the city changed two decades ago, for many people, it is still Madras. Whenever I go to the city from Madurai, I still tell my friends or relatives that “I’m going to Madras”. Even for people up north, the city is Madras. I had come to the city in late 80s, and since then I’m used to call the city that way. I’m sure many people have a better connection with the word “Madras” when compared to “Chennai”.
