'Mookuthi Amman 2' faces an on-set controversy involving Nayanthara and Sundar C
The much-anticipated sequel to 'Mookuthi Amman', titled 'Mookuthi Amman 2', is officially in the making, with Nayanthara reprising her role as the divine goddess. Directed by Sundar C, the film promises to be a grander continuation of the 2020 hit. The project was formally launched with an auspicious pooja ceremony on March 6, attended by the film’s key cast and crew. The ceremony set the tone for what is expected to be an engaging spiritual fantasy drama with a strong social message. However, the production recently encountered a controversy when reports emerged of a disagreement between Nayanthara and an assistant director over a costume issue. According to Hindu Tamil, it was alleged that the actress reprimanded the crew member, leading to tensions on the set. This reportedly prompted director Sundar C to halt the shoot, and speculation arose that the team was considering replacing Nayanthara with Tamannaah for the titular role. The unexpected turn of events created a buzz among fans and the industry.
Producer Ishari K. Ganesh’s Intervention
Amidst the speculations, producer Ishari K. Ganesh intervened and held discussions with Nayanthara to resolve the issue. With matters settled, the team decided to cancel the Pollachi schedule and resumed filming at the Ponniamman Temple in Alapakkam, Chennai. The shoot continued in Nazarathpettai the following day, ensuring that the film remained on track despite the temporary disruption.
A Star-Studded Cast and Grand Vision
The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Duniya Vijay, Regina Cassandra, Yogi Babu, Urvashi, Abhinaya, and Ramachandra Raju. Shooting is currently in Chennai, with the team planning to continue filming in Pollachi after completing the initial schedule. The makers aim to deliver a visually spectacular and content-rich entertainer that lives up to the expectations set by its predecessor.
Arun Vijay has been reportedly cast as the antagonist in 'Mookuthi Amman 2', marking his return to negative roles after his acclaimed performance in 'Yennai Arindhaal'.
Regina Cassandra has been confirmed as part of the project, sparking speculation about whether Sundar C might introduce glamorous elements through her character, given her past roles in bold films. Meanwhile, Regina Cassandra was last seen in the Ajith Kumar starrer action suspense film 'Vidaamuyarchi' which received mixed reviews from the audiences and didn't mint impressive numbers at the box office as expected. Meanwhile, Sundar C's previous outings were 'Aranmanai 4' and 'Madha Gaja Raja'.
