Meghan Markle… err, Meghan Sussex is expanding her empire!
The Duchess of Sussex, along with Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, might have stepped down as senior royals, but Meghan is now solely focused on her new ventures as a businesswoman on the other side of the Atlantic!
After an unsuccessful tryst with the ‘Archetypes’ podcast, and a rather applause-garnering documentary of her love story with Prince Harry and the journey afterward, Meghan Markle came back to the limelight with her lifestyle series ‘With Love, Meghan’ early this year. Although the lifestyle series has been received with mixed reviews, it has been renewed for a second season and Meghan has already announced her next venture - yet again, a podcast, ‘Confessions of a Female Founder’, which she announced via Instagram.
Apart from all these, Meghan has already introduced her lifestyle brand ‘As Ever’, which is set to treat her customers with all those handcrafted delicacies they have been fawning over on ‘With Love, Meghan.’
Now, the Duchess of Sussex is on to her next venture - a one-stop fashion shop!
And for that, Meghan is using her ‘family name’!
The new venture!
Meghan’s sartorial choices in the episodes of ‘With Love, Meghan’ have been drawing attention since the premiere of the lifestyle series. With guests appreciating her wardrobe picks and fans gushing over her subtle yet luxurious outfits - Meghan’s been banking on her minimalist pastel fashion for a while. Now, the Duchess of Sussex has decided to let her fans and followers have a slice of her fashionable pieces as well. Meghan revealed that she started a ShopMy page, linking to some of her favorite style finds. On this website, one can buy the handpicked sartorial choices of the Duchess of Sussex.
However, there’s a slight catch! For this fashion website, Meghan hasn’t used Markle as her surname - the name she is the most popular with. Instead, she has chosen Meghan Sussex! While her name is listed as ‘Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’ on the site, the URL is simply ‘shopmy.us/ms’, seemingly a shorthand for ‘Meghan Sussex’ (The URL shopmy.us/meghan was already taken, although it doesn't seem to be active).
What’s in a name!
One might ask Meghan this question out of sheer curiosity, but they must be prepared for a long sentimental speech about why she doesn’t identify as Meghan Markle anymore!
Mindy Kaling has possibly been the first one to be at the receiving end of it, but now the world has witnessed the same.
As seen in the second episode of the lifestyle show, Meghan and Mindy Kaling prepared for a garden party and talked about foods they ate when they were kids. As Kaling was surprised when Meghan revealed her childhood food habits, The Mindy Project star said, "People wouldn’t believe that Meghan Markle ate at Jack in the Box!"
Meghan then went on to correct her, saying, "It’s so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now." She added, "You have kids and you go, ‘No, I share my name with my children,' " she emphasized. "I didn’t know how meaningful that would be to me, but it just means so much to go, this is our family name, our little family name."
Kaling nodded to her and replied, "Now I know, and I love it."
Later, Meghan revealed to PEOPLE that the Sussex name "is part of our love story" that she will tell Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet about one day, saying "I think as the kids get older, they’re so excited about, ‘Oh my gosh, Mama and Papa, how did you meet?’ I think that will come with time as they get older, but for right now a huge part of our love story is that we share the name Sussex.”
After, as the internet called it, Meghan made such a ‘fuss’ about her Royal surname despite stepping down as Senior Royals, Drew Barrymore made sure to call Meghan Markle by her 'family name' when the Duchess of Sussex appeared on her namesake talk show.
In a preview of the show, Barrymore was seen and heard addressing her guest as "Meghan Sussex" before the "Fast Five" segment began.
