Even after two decades of her passing away too, the allure of actress
Silk Smitha is yet to die down. One of the most followed actresses in the 80s and 90s, Vijayalakshmi Vadlapatla aka Smitha rose to fame with her role as Silk in the movie Vandichakaram in 1979. After acting in 450 movies in various languages like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi, the actresses died by suicide in 1996.
While Dirty Picture, a movie inspired on Smitha’s life was made in Bollywood in 2011 with
Vidya Balan in the lead, not many were happy with the content of the film and the makers mentioned that it was based not only Silk Smitha but several other actresses like her. While, late actor
Vinu Chakravarthy had plans to make a biopic on Silk Smitha, it did not materialise before his death.
Recently, there was an announcement that a biopic on Silk Smitha is being planned. And the buzz is that
Anasuya Bharadwaj, popular television host, who won an award for the best supporting role for her acting in Rangasthalam, will be playin Silk Smitha in the biopic.
Confirming the news, Anasuya shared a photo on Instagram page with the caption, “Living through another good story. New Beginnings Kollywood Tamizh.”
