In 2025, the day falls on Monday, bringing with it a nationwide pause in several sectors as people across the country pay tribute to his enduring legacy.
Ambedkar Jayanti is widely celebrated across India, especially in states like Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, where large public gatherings, processions, and community events are often organized to honor the leader’s contributions.
What’s closed on April 14, 2025?
Being declared a national holiday by the central government, many services and institutions will remain closed, including:
  • Government offices in most states
  • Public and private sector banks (as per RBI’s holiday calendar)
  • Post offices and central/state-run services
  • Courts and public sector units (PSUs)
  • Government-run schools and colleges
  • Stock markets (NSE and BSE)

According to the Reserve Bank of India, banks will be closed in most states, including Tripura, West Bengal, J&K, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam. However, branches in Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, and Himachal Pradesh will remain open.
What stays open
While physical bank branches may close, digital banking services like internet banking, SMS banking, and WhatsApp banking will remain fully operational for both financial and non-financial transactions. Private businesses, retail outlets, and essential services will also function as usual in most areas.
