NEW DELHI: Andaman and Nicobar Island's tourism industry could is all set to get a major worldwide boost. One of Hollywood's best known directors, Oscar winner Peter Weir, is planning to shoot his latest film on Havelock Island. The movie is based on Gregory David Robert's prize winning book Shantaram. The Andamans will, therefore, play host to Hollywood heart throbs Johnny Depp, who is also producing the movie, Russel Crowe and Emma Watson.
Weir arrived in Havelock on Friday morning to finalise the exact locations on the island. Officials in Port Blair are thrilled and said this project promises to give a major push to the island's tourism industry, which was seriously affected by the deadly tsunami.
Officials in Havelock told TOI: This project by will benefit the tourism sector in Andamans, in terms of employment and revenue as well as publicity."
