NEW DELHI: In view of temporary shutdown of Jammu and Chandigarh airports due to the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict, railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Friday directed officials to run "special trains" in border states to meet the requirement of passengers.
Northern Railways operated five trains, including a special 20-coach Vande Bharat Express in which players and support staff of IPL teams Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals travelled from Jalandhar to Delhi.
"Control rooms at different locations such as Jammu, Ambala and New Delhi are monitoring the situation. We are observing the reservation pattern and passenger footfall at stations following which we are taking a call to introduce special trains," Northern Railways spokesperson Himanshu Upadhaya said.
