Will Buxton unsure of featuring in Drive to Survive next season, wants to fill Guenther Steiner’s void in next

Will Buxton might not be part of the eighth season of Formula 1: Drive to Survive as he moves to IndyCar commentary for FOX Sports. He has been with the series since its start. Despite this change, Buxton plans to attend some F1 races as a fan and remain connected with the F1 community.

Will Buxton has been a key part of Formula 1 coverage on F1 TV for a long time and also features in the seventh season of Formula 1: Drive to Survive on Netflix. The latest season highlights all the key moments from last year’s Formula 1 season. However, Buxton is now uncertain whether he will feature in season 8, just like Guenther Steiner, as he has transitioned from F1 TV to become a commentator for IndyCar coverage on FOX Sports.

Will Buxton stars in Formula 1 Drive to Survive 7

Drive to Survive premiered on Netflix on March 7. As part of the promotion, Buxton took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "Coming tomorrow. Season 7. There’s every chance I may explain how qualifying works. And might even drop my first F-bomb. Have to keep the Gunther quotient up somehow." [sic]

Buxton was certainly hinting at how the popularity of the show may take a hit after the departure of Guenther Steiner from Haas. It seems he wants to fill in the void left by Steiner who was much loved on the show.

Will Buxton may not be seen in Drive to Survive 8

Discussing his uncertain role in season 8, Buxton told The Independent that he would love to be part of it if given the chance, though he isn’t sure about his future involvement. He said, “They’ve always been very careful not to show me in the paddock; I’ve always just been a talking head in a room. So, I guess that could continue if they wanted me to. I actually really hope we can, that would be lovely.”
Buxton has been a part of Drive to Survive since its first season, which aired in 2019. “I’m not just going to walk out of the F1 paddock and suddenly not talk to everybody I’ve worked with. I’ll be back throughout the year—not on a TV screen with F1, but I’ll be going to some races. The fun part for me this year, ahead of one of the most exciting F1 seasons in a long time, is that I get to enjoy it as a fan. That’s really exciting for me,” he added.

The show also features other F1 experts, such as former F1 champion Jenson Button and Claire Williams. However, another F1 pundit, Danica Patrick, who appeared in the previous season, is missing from the new season. This is likely due to fan backlash over her public support for US President Donald Trump.
