Chinese golfer Ashun Wu delivered a thrilling final-round performance at the Volvo China Open, rallying from four shots behind to claim his second title at the tournament, exactly 10 years after his first win.
Wu, 39, caught fire on the back nine at Enhance Anting Golf Club on Sunday, making five birdies to shoot a 6-under-par 65. That late surge helped him leapfrog the leaders and secure a dramatic one-shot victory.
Heading into the final round, Wu was trailing by three shots behind Spain’s Eugenio Chacarra. Playing steady golf on the front nine, Wu found his rhythm after the turn, birdieing three of four holes during a key stretch on the back nine.
Meanwhile, the final group, Chacarra and China’s Haotong Li struggled to keep pace. Both players, who started the day tied for the lead, posted 1-over 72s and faltered down the stretch. Chacarra made three bogeys on the back nine, allowing Wu to take full advantage.
Wu finished the tournament at 14-under, one stroke ahead of England’s Jordan Smith, who closed strong with a 4-under 67, including a birdie on the final hole. Yannik Paul of Germany carded a 69 to finish alone in third place.
Li and Chacarra ended up tied for fourth alongside Zecheng Dou, who shot an even-par 70 in the final round.
Wu’s win marks his fifth career victory on the DP World Tour and a memorable return to the winner’s circle at the very event where he claimed his first title in 2015.
The DP World Tour remains in China for another week, with the next stop being the Hainan Classic.
