This season, he underwent a position change, moving from right field to the shortstop position. Earlier, Betts shared that he took up the shortstop position for a ‘personal reason,’ which essentially involved his mission to leave a respectable legacy behind as a legendary baseballer. Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts shared update on Mookie Betts’ return to US to recover from ‘illness’

Mookie Betts got hit by a stomach virus, and he is reportedly sent back to the US for full recovery, as per the updates shared with the reporters by Dave Roberts. The illness caused him fatigue and weight loss, compelling the star shortstop to make a U-turn from the Dodgers’ Tokyo Series line-up.
While talking to reporters, Dave Roberts shared plans to ‘save’ Mookie Betts for the upcoming games from March 27 onwards, which will mark the regular 2025 season. Updating on the Dodgers’ decision to send Betts home, he shared with reporters:
“Mookie flew home, uh, late early evening, late afternoon yesterday, arrived safely, um, and it was just made the most sense for him to get back, uh, to a regular routine, um.”
He continued, “So, that’s kind of where we’re at, and uh, we all support it.”

On March 27, 2025, the Dodgers will take on the Detroit Tigers in the home opener game, and for that, Betts is expected to return to hold the team’s forte at the shortstop position.
Mookie, an MVP Player, a three-time World Series champion, a six-time Gold Glove Award winner, a seven-time Silver Slugger Award winner, and an eight-time All-Star, is a pivot to the Dodgers’ roster. His absence from the Opener Games is undoubtedly a loss for the Dodgers fans.
