Home runs form an important statistic when a player’s performance is evaluated. Players compete to score as many home runs as possible and, at times, are awarded incentives for the same. The best home run record winner is Barry Bonds, who hit 73 home runs in the 2001 season alone. Following his path are some Houston Astros players whose home run count in a single season has been exemplary.
Let’s look at the top 5 Astros players who delivered maximum home runs in a single season, according to StatMuse’s data.

Jeff Bagwell tops Astros players with 449 home runs

Jeff Bagwell leads the pack of Houston Astros players with the most home runs in a single season. He hit the most home runs in a single season, not once or twice, but seven times. The Astros’ Hall of Famer was just three home runs shy of the coveted 50 in 2000. His total career home runs are 449.

The 1994 NL MVP has set a benchmark for other Astros players. He is the only first baseman to have hit 400 home runs and at least 200 stolen bases.

Lance Berkman grabs second spot with 366 home runs

Lance Berkman closely follows Jeff Bagwell with 45 home runs in a single season. His performances in 2007, 2006, 2002, and 2001 featured 34, 45, 42, and 34 home runs, respectively.

The 6-time All-Star split his 15-season career among the Houston Astros, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and St. Louis Cardinals. While playing for the Cardinals, he also won a World Series. He works as the Head Baseball Coach at Houston Christian University.

Richard Hidalgo is third-highest home run scorer among Astros players

Richard Hidalgo’s 44 home runs in the 2000 season earned him a spot among the Astros Players with the most homers in a single season. The Astros traded their OF, Hidalgo, to the New York Mets in 2004. In his entire career, Hidalgo posted 171 home runs.

The player is retired now and mentors his three sons, who are avid baseball aspirants. Of the 171 home runs scored, he posted three in a single game, becoming one of the nine Astros players to achieve this. His stellar performances earned him the team’s Most Valuable Player recognition in 2003.

Alex Bregman is progressing rapidly with 191 home runs

The star third baseman of the Houston Astros did magic with the bat when he posted 41 home runs in 2019. His home run count was the seventh-highest scored in a single season among Astros players. Bregman’s total home runs are 191, which he scored while playing for the Astros from 2016 to 2024.

Recently, he moved to the free-agent market after declining the Astros' offer and joined the Boston Red Sox for the 2025 season. Bregman’s career OPS stands at .846, with a batting average of .272.

George Springer is fifth-highest home run scorer among Astros

George Springer was the Houston Astros’ outfielder from 2014 to 2020. He posted 39 home runs in 2019, which placed him among the Astros’ single-season home runs leaders. Springer moved to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021 and represents this side in the current season.

Springer’s breakout year was 2017, when he bagged MLB All-Star recognition. Also, he was named World Series MVP for his valuable performance in the championship, which the Astros won the same year.
The Astros are the defending AL West champions for the 2025 season. They will contend with the Minnesota Twins on April 5 and April 6, 2025.
