Brawler is shaping up to be a high-impact sports drama that will showcase the brutal beauty of MMA like never before.
The making of Brawler: Zack Snyder brings MMA drama to life with UFC’s backing
Zach Snyder will direct and co-write Brawler alongside Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, both of whom have collaborated with him on past projects, including 300 and Rebel Moon. The film will be produced by Snyder’s Stone Quarry banner, with Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller also on board. Executive producers include Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, and UFC chief content officer Craig Borsari.
“Behind every great fighter is the story of how they got there,” Snyder said. “UFC is the world leader in combat sports, and I’m honored to be partnering with them to tell this incredible story.”
Dana White, who has spent years pushing the UFC further into mainstream entertainment, also expressed his enthusiasm. “HE Turki Alalshikh and Zack Snyder have shared a vision to create a film about UFC,” White said. “They were both very passionate about this project to show fans what it takes to become a UFC champion. It’s an incredibly ambitious project, and I look forward to seeing it come to life.”
Brawler is another big move for the UFC, following its high-tech live event at the Sphere in Las Vegas in 2024. The announcement comes as excitement builds for another MMA film, The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
