In a tribute to women in gaming, over 200 female engineering and design students unveiled a 300-tile installation honoring Mabel Addis at GAFX 2025, claimed to be India’s largest gathering in animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics (AVGC).
The installation is said to celebrate Mabel Addis, the first female video game writer and designer, who pioneered narrative-driven gaming with The Sumerian Game in 1964. Students from RV College of Engineering, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Christ University, and the National Institute of Design collaborated to assemble the tribute, marking a milestone for women in the gaming industry.
This initiative was part of the first-ever Mabel Addis Women in Games Month, aimed at highlighting the contributions and challenges of women in gaming. Despite making up 44% of India’s gaming community (over 260 million gamers), women remain significantly underrepresented in development, design, and leadership roles. A report by the All India Game Developers Forum (AIGDF), Coral Recruit, and M-League revealed that women constitute only 12-14% of India’s gaming workforce.
Throughout February, M-League Foundation organised a series of workshops, panel discussions, and networking events to inspire and support women in gaming.
