Popular comedian and YouTuber
Tanmay Bhat faced a cyber attack last night (February 24) when hackers took control of his X (formerly known as Twitter) account. The hackers used his account, which boasts 6.6 million followers, to promote a meme coin, a type of cryptocurrency often inspired by internet memes and jokes.
The fraudulent posts, which have since been deleted, claimed that Bhat was launching his own coin and would use YouTube revenue to support it. The posts read, "I love memes and Solana so I figured it was time for me to drop my own coin. Dev supply will be locked momentarily, I will be using YouTube revenue from streams and videos to support the coin and implementing it into my content”.
Upon discovering the breach, Bhat took to Instagram to alert his followers, urging them not to click on any links shared from his X account. "My Twitter has been hacked. Please don't click on any links. Working to fix it," he wrote in an Instagram Story.

This incident is part of a growing trend where hackers target high-profile social media accounts to promote fraudulent schemes. In the past, celebrities like Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and Barack Obama have also fallen victim to similar attacks.
Bhat's last legitimate post on X was on January 26, where he praised Disney+ Hotstar's coverage of a Coldplay concert. His account also features a pinned post with an image of a dog using a laptop, humorously implying that he often has no idea what he's doing online.
For now, Bhat is working to regain control of his account and ensure the safety of his followers. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
