Shagun Pandey, who is known for his intense screen presence, was last seen donning the uniform as a cop in Mera Balam Thanedaar. Now, the actor is all set to surprise audiences with a completely different avatar in his upcoming show Saru. The show will feature Mohak Matkar as the female lead and Anushka Merchande as the antagonist.
Talking about the shift in roles, Shagun says, “If you look at my past work, I’ve always tried to choose characters that are distinct from each other. In my last show, I portrayed an IPS officer — a strong, authoritative figure leading from the front. But in Saru, I play a completely different personality — a calm, composed, stylish English professor who believes in inspiring students rather than asserting control. He’s non-reactive, non-confrontational, and carries a cool, easygoing vibe.I was leading the story in Thanedaar, but in Saru, I support the leading lady’s journey. It’s refreshing to be part of a narrative where I inspire change and growth in my students, encouraging them to turn their passions into purpose.”
Saru marks Shagun’s fifth collaboration with producers Shashi and Sumeet Mittal, following Shubharambh, Kyun Utthe Dil Chhod Aaye, Meet: Badlegi Duniya Ki Reet, and Mera Balam Thanedaar.

Expressing his gratitude towards the production house, he adds, “It’s a rare blessing to be consistently backed by a team that believes in your potential. Shashi and Sumeet sir have become like family. They’ve trusted me with such amazing characters and always pushed me to do better. That kind of support is priceless. I wouldn’t trade it for a million bucks! I’m deeply grateful — not just as an actor, but as a person. Even my family keeps telling me, ‘You’re doing stories that matter’.That means everything to me.”
The actor, who started his acting journey with Santoshi Maa, has been part of shows like Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, Badho Bahu, Tujhse Hai Raabta, and Shaadi Ke Siyape.
