Ranveer Allahbadia, who has made headlines for his comments on the adult comedy show India's Got Latent, once joked that his humour could land him in jail. During the present issue, an old video of him making this statement has resurfaced. It stems from his interaction with Vir Das.
The viral video is from one of Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast episodes, which features Emmy-winning comic Vir Das. During their talk, Ranveer expressed his problem with being hilarious, adding, “I never had a struggle with the audience knowing me, but I have struggled to be funnier. That’s why I ask people like you and Zakir Khan for advice.”
The podcaster's joke has gained fresh meaning in light of the outrage he received for his comments on India's Got Latent. The show, famed for its aggressive and dark humour, provoked uproar after a video of Ranveer making an improper "Would you rather watch your parents have sex?" remark became viral. Many viewers considered the comment disrespectful, prompting several complaints and FIRs against him.
Under rising pressure, Ranveer issued a public apology, describing his words as a failure in judgement. However, many on social media remained unconvinced and continued to criticise him. The matter quickly reached the Supreme Court, where Ranveer sought protection from legal action. Although the judge granted him interim bail, he is barred from leaving the country.

While many in the entertainment industry support his position, others believe comedy should have limitations, particularly in public. Comedian Munawar Faruqui, music composer Vishal Dadlani, social media personality Uorfi Javed, and Rakhi Sawant are among the few who have responded to the controversy.
