Recently, Pune-based jewellery shop owner Akshay Gadgil lodged a police complaint against Marathi actor
Milind Dastane and his wife Sayali, for not making payments for jewellery worth `25,69,960 from his store. On Tuesday, Chaturshrungi police arrested the actor and his wife and they were produced before the court the same afternoon.
According to the police, Milind and his wife approached Pune's PNG Brothers from time to time, to buy gold ornaments.
"Last March, the accused and his wife told the manager that they were going to get a huge amount from a land deal and wanted to buy gold. They bought a gold ornament and promised to pay the amount with interest after land deal. Over a period, till October, they also took a gold bar and a diamond ring," said M A Jadhav, Police Sub Inspector, Chaturshrungi police, who is investigating the case. When they did not pay up as promised, the owners lodged a case. The actor and his wife have been booked under section 406, 420 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Jadhav went on to add that after the complaint was registered, Dastane was called for the investigation last weekend while he was shooting in Kolhapur. He finally came to the police station on Tuesday after which he was arrested. “We have asked the police remand for the actor as we want to recover the gold and diamond ornaments. Also, we want to check whether the actor has used his fame to cheat other people,” MA Jadhav added.
