There is no difference between the small screen and the big screen: Aadukalam Naren
Aadukalam Naren, who has appeared in numerous supporting roles in films, will now be part of the new television series, Enga Veetu Meenakshi. He will be playing actor Jeeva’s father and Poornima Bhagyaraj’s husband in the serial. He says, “When I got a call for this serial, I simply couldn’t refuse as so many interesting people are part of it. Be it Jeeva, Poornima, or the young and exciting team, everything fell into place for this. I will appear in the flashback portions and it will be an interesting role. This will be the first time that I will be working with Poornima. The team has erected a huge set for the serial and I am looking forward to it.”
Ask him how it feels to be back on TV, and he says, “I received my training in acting whilst doing TV serials early on in my career. Since I have done both TV shows and films, I must say that there is no difference between a TV serial and a film project. The acting is the same, it’s only the medium that is different. I did get a lot of offers previously, but the only reason I had to refuse them was because of the dates.”
With several Kollywood actors doing full-length or cameo roles on TV shows now, what does Naren think about this trend? “It is definitely a welcome change. Like I mentioned before, actors are actors, irrespective of the medium. Ultimately, everything is media and we’re all part of the entertainment industry. To be honest, serials are much more difficult than films. In films, it is just a two-hour show and the audience watches your film, enjoys and moves on to the next. But in serials, you have to prove every single day. Be it performances or the storyline, there should be consistency and interesting elements to keep audiences glued to the content. In that sense, we need to work really hard and give our best for all the episodes,” says Naren.
