‘No one should play Robi Thakur’: Swastika Mukherjee takes an indirect dig at Anupam Kher’s film based on Rabindranath Tagore

Anupam Kher recently announced his upcoming film wherein he will be portraying the role of Rabindranath Tagore. A couple of days after the actor announced the film, Swastika Mukherjee posted a cryptic tweet which seemed to be an indirect dig at the film based on the Bengali poet-writer’s life. She tweeted, ‘No one should play Robi Thakur. Leave the man alone.’ Her tweet received several reactions from netizens; while some agreeing with her statement, many others in disagreement. A user wrote, ‘Bengal knows him well, rest of India not so much His story should be told and cinema is a good medium’, while another wrote, ‘Tagore was a brilliant Thinker and an exceptional poet. He has a huge contribution in shaping modern Bengalis. His story must be told.’ One of the netizens slammed Swastika’s tweet saying, ‘No one asked your preference. Let the audience decide.’ Last week, Anupam Kher unveiled his look of Rabindranath Tagore as he announced the film with a caption that read, ‘Delighted to portray #Gurudev #RabindranathTagore in my 538th project. Will reveal the details in due course. It is my fortune that I got the privilege to portray Gurudev on the big screens! Will be sharing more details of this film with you soon!’ Several netizens mistook Anupam’s look as a real photo of Rabindranath Tagore and conveyed the same with comments like ‘Omg sir, u actually look like him’ and ‘Did not recognise you and thought it was photo. Congratulations and looking forward’.For more news and updates, stay tuned to ETimes.
