Kim Sae Ron's painful unsent letter to Kim Soo Hyun uncovered: 'You were my first and last love'

An influx of shock and grief has shaken the entertainment community after an unsigned letter penned by actress Kim Sae Ron for Kim Soo Hyun back in 2024 surfaced. The letter was released to the public by the bereaved family of Kim Sae Ron, represented by attorney Bu Ji Seok, with a moving indication of how she felt about the two of them, the response to a rowdy photo incident, and that she wanted closure.
The press conference, which took place in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on March 27, 2025, was called to clarify the speculation about the actors' relationship following a picture of them together appearing earlier, with the public receiving mixed reactions and intense scrutiny. The letter, as explained by Bu Ji Seok, was never delivered because of legal limitations placed by Kim Soo Hyun's agency, GOLD MEDALIST.

She states that she wants to clear up any misunderstandings regarding their relationship, writing, "Hi, this is Roni [nickname]. Are you doing well? I wanted to clear up any misunderstandings about our relationship, so I'm writing this."
She also goes on to explain that the controversial photo upload was a last-ditch effort to catch the attention of GOLD MEDALIST, explaining "I uploaded the picture because I wanted to get the company's attention. I'm sorry for bringing damage to you because of that." She also expresses her fear and unease with the employees of the agency, bemoaning the lack of communication after she left.
The most heart-wrenching part of the letter is Kim Sae Ron's reflection on their romantic history. She reveals, we had been dating for 5-6 years, you were my first love and my last love, so I wish you wouldn’t avoid me." Her longing for a simple friendship is evident as she pleads, "Can we please stay friends? No more, no less. We can still cheer each other on. Do you hate me that much? Why?"
The letter has a finality and air of resignation to it. "If this letter doesn't reach you, then our relationship is genuinely over, for good. The idea makes me depressed. I won't intrude on your life anymore. But don't resent me… I hope that I get to see your smiling face again." She gives her telephone number, hoping for a phone call, and declares her backing of his future endeavors, stressing that she wishes for him to not remember their time together in a negative light.
Before showing the letter, Kim Sae Ron's lawyer also showed a chain of text messages purportedly exchanged between the two in 2016, when Kim Sae Ron was still a minor. The contents of these messages have caused much uproar and controversy among netizens, with many of them being disgusted by Kim Soo Hyun's purported actions.
