New Delhi: Lieutenant governor VK Saxena gave his approval on Friday to suspend an engineer of the public works department for allegedly neglecting maintenance and cleanliness of a drain.
The recommendation to suspend PWD's executive engineer (civil) was made by minister Parvesh Verma after he found a drain behind a state-run school adjacent to NH-24 full of silt and encroached upon during his visit to the area along with Patparganj MLA Ravi Negi. After the visit, Verma recommended disciplinary proceedings and suspension of the engineer.
Officials said the suspension was expected to send a message to govt employees that negligence of duty in public welfare issues would not be tolerated. "Since the formation of the new govt, LG, chief minister Rekha Gupta and all ministers are regularly inspecting the roads, drains and garbage dumps and taking necessary steps for their improvement," said an official.
Saxena also recommended extending the suspension of another executive engineer for 180 days. The engineer was placed under suspension in the matter related to alleged irregularities in the construction of 6, Flagstaff Road, the official residence of former CM Arvind Kejriwal. TNN
