Indore: A wave of grief swept through Veena Nagar on Thursday morning as the final journey of Sushil Nathaniel, a victim of the
Pahalgam terror attack, began from his residence at B-68. The pain of an irreparable loss was etched on every face as family, friends, neighbours, and well-wishers gathered to pay their last respects to a man remembered as kind, humble, and deeply respected in his community.
Sushil's mortal remains were placed in a coffin outside his home, giving everyone a final chance to say goodbye. His wife, Jennifer, clung to the casket, weeping uncontrollably, while his elderly father stood beside her, devastated and silent. People whispered prayers, and muffled sobs filled the gathering.
From his home, a special vehicle carried Sushil's body to St Joseph's Church in Nanda Nagar, where an emotional prayer service was held. His daughter Akansha, in a wheelchair, sat near her father's coffin throughout the prayer. Hundreds gathered at the church, their heads bowed and hands clasped, to pray for the soul of a man whose life was cruelly cut short in a terror attack.
The final leg of the journey led to the cemetery, where Sushil was laid to rest amidst chants of prayer and tearful farewells. Thousands attended the funeral, not just relatives and friends, but also prominent figures across party lines, including minister Tulsi Silawat, Congress state president Jitu Patwari, BJP MLA Ramesh Mendola, BJP district president Sumit Mishra, and Congress district president Surjit Singh Chaddha.
Daughter back to hospital: Soon after the burial at the Juni Indore cemetary, Akansha was wheeled out and rushed to Bombay hospital by her relatives in a car. Akansha, who had suffered a fracture, was sent to Indore after preliminary treatment at a hospital in Kashmir but waited for the ceremony. Bombay Hospital deputy director Rahul Parashar said, "Akansha was admitted here in the afternoon. She has suffered self depressed proximal tibia lateral consular fracture with ligament injury in left knee." He said that a surgery has been planned but the family is waiting for her mother to recover following which further line of action will be decided.
