As pet owners, we simply want to pamper our dogs with delicious treats, but some foods are really toxic for our dogs. While there are plenty of foods okay to give your dog, there are other foods referred to as toxic foods that will really make your dog very sick from a little distress to fatal disease. Toxic foods such as chocolate, grapes, onions, and alcohol have been found to cause violent reactions such as vomiting, convulsions, kidney failure, or even death. It always does no harm to learn such poisonous foods and keep them away from your dog. Here in this article, we are going to inform you about some of the most toxic foods which should never be provided to your dog and some alternatives which are safe to assist you in keeping your dog healthy and happy.
Harmful food items for dogs that you must not feed
Harmful effects: Chocolate includes caffeine and theobromine, both of which are poisonous to dogs. Due to the presence of theobromine in dark chocolates and baking chocolate, it can be harmful to your pet's health.
Side effects: The effects of chocolate can lead to seizures, fast breathing, elevated heart rate, vomiting, diarrhoea, and, in extreme situations, death.
Substitute item: Instead of feeding chocolate, you can feed dog-safe products made up of dog treats or peanut butter.
Harmful effects: The harmful effects caused by the grapes and raisins are still unknown, but they are not good for the dog's health, as they are extremely poisonous.
Side effects: The side effects of feeding grapes and raisins to your pet can be lethargy, kidney failure, dehydration, vomiting, and possibly even death.
Substitute item: Feed your dog with fruits such as watermelon and apples, which are safe and don't have seeds.
Harmful effects: Compounds found in garlic and onions can harm a dog's red blood cells and cause anaemia. This covers these components in their uncooked, cooked, or powdered forms.
Side effects: The symptoms such as fainting, pale gums, weakness, lethargy, and, in extreme situations, organ damage or death can be seen in dogs after the consumption of garlic and onions.
Substitute item: You can use vegetables such as peas, green beans, and carrots for dogs' good health.
Harmful effects: Alcohol can cause toxic effects in a dog's body. They can feel extreme drunkenness after alcohol consumption.
Side effects: The alcohol consumption can cause coma, breathing difficulties, tremors, vomiting, diarrhoea, and, in extreme situations, death in dogs.
Substitute item: Instead of giving alcohol, make sure your dog consumes more water. The dog-friendly broth without additional salt or onions can also be given.
Harmful effects: Bones can easily be eaten by dogs, but heated bones can splinter easily, which will lead to internal injuries or a choking hazard.
Side effects: The consumption of cooked bones can cause choking, tooth injury, or even surgically necessary intestinal punctures.
Substitute item: You can give your dog chew toys and raw bones that are made for the dogs.
Harmful effects: Greasy foods cause indigestion and pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas.
Side effects: The effects of consuming greasy human food can be abdominal discomfort, vomiting, diarrhoea, and, in extreme situations, potentially fatal pancreatitis.
Substitute item: You can feed your dog safe snacks manufactured from lean meats or lean protein sources, such as cooked chicken (without seasoning).
