The Ghastling is 1st of the new variants the players will be encountering. The variant is quite unique to its developmental journey. The adorable, tiny mobs start as the Dried Ghast block that is found in the Soul Sand Valley of the Nether, near the Nether fossils. These blocks resemble the miniature ghast with the frowning face. To bring it to life, the players must submerge the ghast in the water for a few days and transform it into the Ghastling.
Unlike the typical gloomy Nether counterpart, Ghastling sports the raised brows and a cheerful smile, giving it a friendlier appearance. It makes it one of the cutest additions to the game.
After transformation, Ghastling emits calmer and softer sounds. They float around the players, who can interact with the delightful creatures by feeding them the snowballs. It allows them to gradually grow into fully mature ghasts, the next variant— the Happy Ghasts.

It is the second new variant that marks the stark contrast from the existing hostile Nether ghasts, with the tranquil nature and a serene smile. As suggested by the name, the mob is passive and friendly. The players who grow the Happy Ghasts from the Ghastlings can automatically find the Happy Ghasts tamed, making them one of loyal companions.
The Happy Ghast offers the players a novel means to explore the Overworld. Crafting the Ghast Harness with 3 leather, 2 glass blocks, and 1 wood block, the players can saddle up and ride the Happy Ghast. It can carry up to 4 players simultaneously, offering the unique means to traverse the world and build in the Survival Mode. It offers a creative mode-like platform for constructing tall structures with complete ease.

The introduction of Ghastling and the Happy Ghast brings in new opportunities and mechanics within Minecraft.
