Show of strngth between TDP and janasena cadres in Pithapuram during the visit of Janasena MLC K Naga Babu
KAKINADA: Cracks between the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Janasena Party in the Pithapuram Assembly constituency appear to be widening. This has paved the way for a show of strength between the two alliance partners during the two-day visit of newly elected MLC K. Naga Babu, brother of Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan.
Cadres of the two parties have been facing off wherever MLC Naga Babu goes in Pithapuram. Naga Babu participated in several official programmes in the constituency over the past two days. TDP leaders shouted slogans in support of the TDP and former MLA SVSN Varma, while Janasena party workers raised slogans in favour of Janasena and Pawan Kalyan. In several places, both groups were nearly involved in physical altercations. Police personnel remained largely passive and struggled to separate the two groups.
TDP cadres argued that SVSN Varma was not invited to the official programmes, while Janasena leaders refuted these claims.
At Kumarapuram village, where Naga Babu participated in an official programme, both groups clashed verbally. At Mayapatnam, under I. Kothapalli police station limits, TDP leaders expressed anger over the absence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s photo on the event flex banners. At China Jaggampeta, a motorcycle belonging to a Janasena worker was reportedly damaged by TDP workers.
Tensions escalated after the Foundation Day celebrations were recently held in the Pithapuram constituency. During the event, MLC Naga Babu made veiled comments suggesting that no single individual was responsible for Pawan Kalyan’s grand victory in the assembly elections. These comments angered Varma’s supporters, who believe he played a key role in the landslide win. Since then, party cadres have been engaging in public displays of strength whenever they encounter each other.
