AMRITSAR: The Ajnala Court on Friday morning granted a four-day police remand for seven accomplices of Waris Punjab Dae chief Amritpal Singh, who is currently lodged in Assam’s high-security Dibrugarh Jail.
Amritpal Singh is also a Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib parliamentary constituency.
Those who were presented before the court included Daljit Singh Kalsi, Bhagwant Singh alias Pradhan Mantri Bajeke, Kulwant Singh, Harjeet Singh, Gurinder Pal Singh, Gurmeet Singh, and Basant Singh.
They were brought to court under strict security arrangements.
According to one of the defense lawyers, the police had requested a seven-day custodial remand, citing the need to recover mobile devices, investigate potential arms possession, and identify any other persons involved in the case. However, the court granted the police a four-day remand to facilitate the continued investigation.
They were arrested in connection with the 2023 attack on Ajnala police station and were presented in relation to the Ajnala case, specifically FIR number 39.
All of them had been recently released from Dibrugarh Central Jail after their detention under the National Security Act (NSA) had expired.
Their release occurred in batches over the last three days. Following their release from Dibrugarh Jail, the Punjab Police re-arrested them and presented them before the Dibrugarh Court, seeking transit remand to transport them to Punjab for further investigation.
All of them arrived in Punjab on Thursday night and were kept in an undisclosed location under heavy security
