Pilibhit: A 35-year-old unemployed man was duped of Rs 14 lakh in Pilibhit's Piparia Karam village by an immigration consultant in Chandigarh on the pretext of sending him to the UK on a work visa.
Following a judicial order issued by the first additional judicial magistrate, police on Tuesday night registered a case against three persons in the matter, including the immigration consultant.
Complainant Vikarmjeet Singh said that his brother Indrajit Singh, an educated unemployed man, came in contact with one Nadeep Singh of Sector 44 in Chandigarh, who promised to send him to the UK with a good job opportunity, for which he demanded Rs 14 lakh for a work visa.
The deal took place on March 3, 2023, under which the sum of Rs 8 lakh was sent to the accused through bank, while the remaining balance of Rs 6 lakh was paid to him in cash in the presence of witnesses.
Following this, the victim was provided with a visa, air tickets, etc., by the accused, but when he reached Amritsar airport to take his flight, he was informed by the airport authorities that his visa was fraudulent.
On demanding a refund, the victim was allegedly abused, threatened, and denied the amount by the accused. The complainant said that he filed written complaints to police officials from the concerned police station up to the SP, but his FIR was not lodged until he secured a judicial order.
SHO Jagdeep Malik said that the accused was booked under BNS section 318 (4) (cheating and dishonesty), 316 (2) (criminal breach of trust), 352 (intentional insult), and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation).
