SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh state secretariat of the
Communist Party of India Marxist (CPM) has attacked the state government for remaining a mute spectator to the ongoing events in the private universities of the state. The CPM said at the directions of the high court the UGC had given an indictment towards functioning of these universities, however, the state government has not done anything for addressing the problems of the students and faculty members.
CPM leader and Shimla deputy Mayor Tikender Singh Panwar said the Himachal Pradesh private educational institutions regulatory commission had no teeth despite the Supreme Court upholding the relevance of such a statutory body. He alleged that the Congress government was no different from its predecessor, the BJP, in terms of education-related matters. "Both want education sector in the state to go into the hands of commercial entrepreneurs," he alleged.
The party has warned the state government not to follow on the footsteps of its predecessor government as these issues threw the BJP out of power in the state and if the present Congress government would do the same then people will lose faith in the present government as well.
"The former state Congress in-charge has joined the BJP in Haryana that proves that the Congress' rightward shift will erode the base of the party," Panwar added.
