YAMUNANAGAR: In an achievement, Yamunanagar district has secured the first position in Haryana for its exceptional work in improving nutrition and gender ratio under the district’s Women and Child Development Department’s (WCDD) initiatives.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini felicitated Yamunanagar deputy commissioner Parth Gupta and WCDD district program officer Tarvinder Kaur at a ceremony held in Panchkula. They were awarded a state-level Nutrition Award, which included a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, along with an additional Rs 2.5 lakh for securing the top rank in gender ratio improvement.
DC Parth Gupta highlighted that multiple initiatives such as Poshan Pakhwada, Poshan Maah, and Poshan Tractor Mission have played a crucial role in ensuring better nutrition for women and children. Anganwadi workers, supervisors, and nutrition officers actively monitor the health and nutritional needs of pregnant women and children, ensuring timely food supply and healthcare support, he said.
To maintain a balanced gender ratio, the government has been implementing several welfare schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana and Aapki Beti-Hamari Beti. Strict enforcement of the PCPNDT Act (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act) has also helped curb female foeticide. Additionally, awareness programs under the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign have been instrumental in reducing gender discrimination, said DC Gupta.
