“This is who he is”: Red Sox manager Alex Cora on Alex Bregman’s leadership qualities

Alex Bregman and his proficiency as a baseball athlete need no introduction in the world of MLB. The popular third baseman ended his first stint with free agency after signing a $120 million contract with the Boston Red Sox. His addition to the Red Sox’s roster even started showing its ripple effect as soon as he stepped into the team’s clubhouse due to his third baseman position.
Despite all of this, Alex Bregman has always diverted the spotlight towards himself due to his leadership qualities. Recently, Red Sox manager Alex Cora even spoke about his skill set as a leader.
During a recent interview with the MLB Network, Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora not only spoke about the new faces in the team but also reflected on his bond with their newly acquired slugger, Alex Bregman. While talking about the former Houston Astros star Cora, he even pointed out his leadership qualities, which clearly reflected during his nine-year stint with the MLB team. Cora said-
“He’s doing this because this is who he is. I love the fact that he does that.”

Alex Cora even mentioned the ongoing controversy around the third baseman position in the Boston Red Sox. The MLB team went on to become the hotbed of discussion after Rafael Devers clearly mentioned that he would stick to the position of the third baseman in the team. During a recent interview with the MLB Network, Cora said,
"I think there's a lot of decisions that we have to make around (third base), right? Raffy was loud and clear. He's a third baseman, and I understand that. I've been with that kid since November 2017.”

He further elaborated:
“He's a proud individual, but one thing about Raffy is that he wants to win. I think that first game in Texas we will do whatever is good for the Boston Red Sox, and they are all on board. There's a lot of conversations, and we'll see what happens."
With the opening day just around the corner, the unclear stance of the Boston Red Sox’s management on the third baseman controversy has left their fans and followers confused and curious. With both third basemen Alex Bregman and Rafael Devers in the Red Sox, the take of the team’s management on the issue could change their roster lineup for the 2025 season.
