Tamil Nadu horror: 14-year-old forced into marriage, dragged away by 30-year-old husband

Krishnagiri police arrested five individuals involved in a child marriage between a 14-year-old girl and a 30-year-old man. The girl was rescued from Bengaluru when a video of her distress went viral. Those arrested include the groom, his brother, the girl's parents, and the brother's wife. They face charges under the POCSO Act and Child Marriages Act.

KRISHNAGIRI: The Krishnagiri district police have arrested five people in connection with a child marriage.
The wedding of a 14-year-old girl to Mathesh,30, of Kalikuttai in Bengaluru took place on March 3. On the same day, the girl went to her grandmother’s home in Anchetty.
Her husband took her away from her grandmother’s home Wednesday. A video of the girl in distress was shared widely on social media platforms.
On being informed, the Denkanikottai police intervened and rescued the girl while she was being taken to Bengaluru.
On Wednesday, the police arrested Mathesh, his brother Mallesh and the girl's mother. On Thursday, the girl's father and Mallesh’s wife Muniyammal were arrested, said Krishnagiri superintendent of police P Thangadurai.
All five were booked under sections of the POCSO Act and the Child Marriages Act.
The girl, who is a Class VII dropout, was sent to a govt-run one-stop centre for her safety.
