Surprise, surprise! The Cincinnati Bengals can actually finalize contracts. Considering their chaotic offseason, it’s a wonder they managed to get one across the finish line. With Ja’Marr Chase still waiting for a new deal, Trey Hendrickson’s name surfacing in trade talks, and Tee Higgins slapped with the franchise tag, the Bengals’ offseason has been nothing short of a rollercoaster. And now, they’ve locked in a one-year contract extension, not for Chase or Higgins, but for tight end Tanner Hudson.
Bengals extend Tanner Hudson, but what about other big names?
Tanner Hudson steals snap from Burrow for fourth-down TE sneak
Tanner Hudson, who is heading into his sixth season, has been a solid contributor, appearing in 23 games over the past two years. He’s recorded 58 receptions for 506 yards and just two touchdowns, proving to be a reliable, if unspectacular, option in the Bengals' offense. While securing his future provides some stability, it hardly moves the needle in a way that will satisfy Joe Burrow or the Bengals' fanbase.
Meanwhile, uncertainty looms over Tee Higgins. Despite multiple teams expressing interest in acquiring the star wideout, the Bengals insist that he’s not available for trade. But in the unpredictable world of the NFL, nothing is ever truly off the table. Until the front office makes a definitive move on Higgins’ future and finds a way to keep Burrow’s top weapons happy, questions will continue to swirl around Cincinnati’s offseason strategy.
Extending Hudson is just a small piece of the puzzle. The Bengals have much bigger decisions to make if they want to stay competitive and keep their franchise quarterback satisfied.
The Bengals’ offseason remains a work in progress, and while securing Hudson adds some depth, it does little to address the larger concerns surrounding Burrow’s supporting cast. With Higgins’ future still uncertain and Chase awaiting his payday, Cincinnati’s front office has plenty of work left to do. If they hope to make a serious push for a championship, they’ll need to ensure their offensive firepower remains intact. Otherwise, Burrow’s frustrations and the uncertainty surrounding the Bengals will only continue to grow. Time is ticking, and the pressure is on for Cincinnati to make the right moves before the season kicks off.
